Michal Ranný studied in the years 1961 - 65 at SUPŠ in Brno under prof. Jiří Coufal, continued at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with prof. František Jiroudek and Jiří John. The beginnings of his painting were connected with the landscape of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, to which he kept returning and which was one of his great sources of inspiration. However, his study visits to Italy and France brought him to the subject of the seas, where he absorbed the horizontal composition and transferred it to the canvas in a lyrical shortcuts. He was fascinated by the color contrasts and appearance of natural anorganic structures.
