František Foltýn (1891 - 1976) AN ABSTRACT COMPOSITION

František Foltýn was one of the Czech modern painters. He also experienced the horrors of war in World War I as a soldier. He devoted himself to the landscape, social and folk themes, but he also created very original simplistic abstractions with geometric features. He was strongly influenced by the artificialism of Toyen and Jindřich Štyrský and created cubist-organic structures and rhythms accentuated by a strongly contrasting background.
