The versatile and talented painter Ota Janeček based his work on both domestic tradition and the legacy of European modernism. From the initial impulses of cubism, lyrical ﬁguralism or French colourism, he turned his attention to his own unmistakable expression. His oeuvre is rich and varied. He subjected his themes to careful scrutiny, returning to them, and it is this maturation of thought that is most remarkable about his work.
