Jaroslav Herbst (1887 - 1971) FEMALE NUDE

Jaroslav Herbst is known for his conception of painting in the spirit of expressionism based on strong contrasts of light and colour and a spatial concept derived from cubism. His work, first presented publicly in an exhibition at the Dra Feigl Gallery in Prague in 1934, drew unexpected critical acclaim and a favourable response. Herbst's next exhibition was organized by Feigl in 1937, after which the painter again fell into obscurity.
