Jiří Kolář (1914 - 2002) TORZO OF VENUS

When Jiří Kolář was carving silhouettes, he realised that he could use the technique of prolage to make a mask out of anything that could be transformed into his personal poetry. He could do anything and become anything. He could become a living metaphor. The moving prolage of the female torso, which he used more than once in his work, has the same charakter. He incorporated Marianne von Werefkin's Black Women into the prolage.
