Alois Kalvoda (1875 - 1934) TREE BY THE RIVER

Here, in a more intimate format, the artist lets the natural colouring of the water surface and the adjacent aquatic vegetation shine through, with a narrow path winding around the shore. After his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kalvoda studied in Paris and Munich. He gradually departed from Mařák's school of painting melancholic landscapes and moved towards a more decorative conception of landscape in colour and motif. He painted simple motifs of the Bohemian countryside, meadows, hillsides, birches, views of the countryside between the trunks of trees standing in the foreground or against the background of hillsides.
