Jaroslav Herbst (1887 - 1971) STILL LIFE WITH FOLK MADONNA

The artist came from a peasant family from Dušníky near Říp. He studied mechanical engineering and later civil engineering at the Prague Technical University and started painting as a self-taught painter in 1912. After the First World War, he returned permanently to his family farm, where he farmed and painted in complete isolation from the artistic environment. Folkloric elements often appear in his works - jugs, tablecloths, devotionals.
