Jacques Callot drew and engraved a cycle of 18 etchings, which became probably his most famous cycle. The 1633 cycle became an anti-war statement in European art and relates to the Thirty Years' War actions. Callot lived in Lorraine, which was the target of a marauding army sent by Cardinal Richelieu to tactically secure the territory.
