The author belongs to the landscape painters who have undergone classical training. He started at the Prague School of Applied Arts under Stanislav Sucharda and Felix Jeinwein and later moved to the Academy with Julius Mařák and Antonín Slavíček. He depicts the landscape in a modern lyrical way. He became famous as a painter of Podyjí and as an illustrator of the publication of August Sedláček's famous work on Czech castles and chateaux.
