Josef Mathauser (1846 - 1917) MARY WITH JESUS

Josef Mathauser was a master of religious and historical motifs. His distinctly narrative work combines both a certain romantic emotionality and the impression of recording a specific event. The motif presented here is a beautiful example of the symbolic role of Mary as the archetype of the mother and patroness of children.
