The inspiration of Chinese and Japanese art in Europe begins with imports from these countries in the 17th century. This was followed in the early 18th century by efforts to imitate entire architectures (pavilions, pagodas), materials, techniques or decor. These include, for example, Delft pottery, Meissen porcelain, French Rococo furniture, but also painting. The rare black lacquered chest of drawers with chinoiserie motifs and carved lion's paws is made up of three drawers and depicts scenes of Chinese architecture, inhabitants along with fauna and flora with a dominant fanciful bird all over its visible surface including the back legs using the technique of pasty lacquer and painting. Very good preserved condition.
