Félix de Boeck was originally a Belgian autodidact who underwent a development that led him to abstract modernism and futurism. De Boeck initially painted geometric and circular abstract masks in response to the economic and social upheavals of the First World War and the desire to "build a new world". From the 1930s onwards, his work became overtly figurative, with symbolic engagement with philosophical and religious themes. It is only in his last years (1980-1995) that he creates a synthesis with the themes of Space and Beginning and End, which is abstract and philosophical in nature. The shining points of light on the horizon are the symbolic culmination of his metaphysical research.
