Maxmilián Pirner created an engaging work full of fantasy, allegory and Art Nouveau ornamentation. The personified seasons and rivers are transformed into beautiful maidens, who bend, dance or fly in poses. Jokingly, spring sits in the branches of autumn chestnut trees, waiting for its moment to come. The profound dimensions of Pirner's symbolist work led him to decadence. His work as an illustrator and the artistic climate of the time also had a significant influence on his work, as Pirner defined himself against naturalism and contrasted it with fantasy, symbol and allegory.
