A PAIR OF MANNERIST SGABELLO CHAIRS

Sgabello is a type of chair with richly carved wooden legs and backrest. This form originated in Renaissance Italy in the 16th and 17th centuries. The paired chairs of this type offered in figured walnut wood exhibit dynamic elements such as volute finials or heraldic shapes on the bottom and base of the chair, which are familiar in early expressions of the Baroque. Excellent preserved condition.
