Emanuel Halman was an important portrait sculptor in his time. From 1889 to 1896 he studied at the UMPRUM in Prague under Celda Klouček and Josef Václav Myslbek, and later collaborated with Stanislav Sucharda. In 1897 he exhibited at the first exhibition of the SVU Mánes in Topič's Salon. Around 1900 he created four busts for the Pantheon of the National Museum, after the fire of the National Theatre he restored the destroyed Schnirch Triggs, he participated in the work together with František Rous and Ladislav Šaloun. The offered portrait bust represents Hynek Puce (1856-1938), an important Czech mechanical engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur, co-founder of the Koh-i-Noor factory in Vršovice. Puc's company was revolutionized by the invention of the so-called folding machine, i.e. the machine that enabled the mass production of patches used to join different pieces of fabric or textiles.
