Alois Kalvoda belongs to the leading Czech landscape painters of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In the years 1892 - 1898, he studied at the Academy with Professor Julio Mařák. The teacher's romantic conception of the Kalvoda landscape influenced him only for a short time, but he applied his approach to students throughout his teaching career. The vitalistic motif of a costumed girl by a flowering tree is one of the most attractive works for collectors, as we rarely encounter figural staffage at Kalvoda. The subject caught the painter's eye so much that he paid a lot of attention to the entire segment of the girl in the middle of the blooming vegetation and processed the individual elements and plant species in such a way that the composition can almost be defined botanically.
