Vojtěch Preissig went to Paris after finishing his studies at the art-industrial school, where he got a place in Alfons Mucha's studio. He also gained renown in the United States, where he pioneered linocut and taught other graphic techniques. As a patriot, he immediately joined the editorial staff of the magazine V Boj during the war. Preissig's bravura technique later saved him from the death penalty in the Dachau concentration camp. Here he had to work in the workshop of top counterfeiters, producing fake dollars and pounds for the Germans.
