Bedřich Feigl was born into the educated family of the Prague lawyer JUDr. Josef Feigl, and while Bedřich followed the path of a painter, his brothers devoted themselves to poetry and gallery work. Bedřich Feigl would meet with other young painters at the Union Café and together they would try to find a new artistic outlet that explored shape and colour. He thus became a co-founder of Osma. In 1906 Bedřich Feigl, together with Emil Filla and Antonín Procházka, travelled around Europe, visiting Dresden, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Marseille, Rome, Naples and Florence. The work presented here, The Port of Marseille, is one of the typical examples of the records of several trips made by Bedřich Feigl in Marseille.
