Cyril Hančl comes from a non-academic background and likes to do things his own way. Stone enchanted him right from the beginning because of its stillness and a certain kind of grandeur. His method is to follow a vision and then follow the results of the work in a purely empirical way, correcting the work to complete satisfaction. He emphasizes proportion and the curve is his melody. He thinks that sculpture is best in the open air. The work, titled Darling, is part of a series of animal-themed sculptures. Creatures from the animal kingdom are the artist's pets. Man seems to want to deny his origins, but when confronted with a pure animal character, he becomes nostalgic.
