The marble vase was created at the time when Luděk Havelka and Vincenc Makovský were involved in the founding of the School of Art in Zlín, where Makovský was the head of the department of shaping machines and tools (today industrial design). The vase is an example of extraordinary craftsmanship, which is also unique in the field of technological experimentation with marble shaped into the thinnest possible form. The Baťa School of Arts and Crafts in Zlín was intended to educate industrial artists, taking into account the model of the German Bauhaus movement.
