Philipp Peter Roos was a German Baroque painter, active in and around Rome since 1677. It was in Tivoli that he had a large estate with numerous animal residents so that he could paint them faithfully in lifelike poses. He was very popular among his friends and his house was called "Noah's Ark". The detailed animals of the motif appear very plastic and the surrounding landscape with a lake and a town on the rocks almost complements them. He made a living mainly in small formats and was not properly appreciated during his lifetime. The restoration report of Šarka and Petr Berger is attached to the painting.
