From the expert opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "The presented miniature and very high-quality Portrait of an astronomer is the work of Václav Mánes, as the note on the back of the painting states. Václav Mánes was a painter mainly of figural religious and historical themes, but in order to support himself, he also began to devote himself to the popular and the required portrait. The presented portrait documents how Václav Mánes was able to be elegant in a portrait with a sense of sober form and overall neatness."
