Gustav Macoun was one of the painters whose desire to paint manifested itself from an early age. After graduating from elementary school, he studied with Alois Kalvoda and Antonín Slavíček. He applied to Antonín Slavíček all his life and painted the landscape with a touch of impressionism. To capture the silhouette of the ruins of Trosky Castle, he chose a flowering meadow near the small village of Libunec in the Jičín district. He placed an interesting horizon shrouded in a bluish tinge in color contrast with the vital colors of the meadow full of dandelions. František Kaván, for example, also painted in the picturesque surroundings of Libunec.
