Josef Lada (1887 - 1957) FROM THE AFTERLIFE

Lada's original painting, in which he fully applied his experience, significantly enriched the expressive register of contemporary Czech painting and drawing. The humorous theme of heaven and hell contrasts a girl galloping on a winged horse to the gate of heaven and a screaming man on a pig, who is greeted by a laughing devil in the gate of hell. In his conception of caricatures, Josef Lada was unique in his time and very popular with the period press. Expert assessment by PhDr. Pavla Pečinková, CSc. included.
