A lovely forest landscape by the Austrian landscape painter Josef Holzer. Holzer entered the engraving school at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1840, where he won first prize, and then attended the landscape school of Thomas Ender and Franz Steinfeld. In 1846 he went on study trips to Germany, Belgium and Switzerland, and then in 1856 as an imperial scholarship holder for three years to Munich. The presented work Forest Landscape probably belongs to his last works in life referring to his stay in the Carpathian forests.
